At our last STA Fall celebration, in 2019, I ended the night sitting with several of our school nurses. They did not hesitate to tell me, as a new president, that they felt like they were significantly under-compensated relative to the importance of the role they play in the district and when compared to other nurses’ units in Nassau County. In the months that followed, it became evident that they were right. The pandemic made it even more apparent. The STA has been working with the nurses to change that ever since.

As I mentioned in my email last week, our Nurses have been working under an expired contract since June 30, 2021. In June of this year, both sides jointly declared “impasse” and chose to move to third-party mediation. We have had two mediation sessions and will have another on December 1st. By now you should have received a button like the one in the image on the right. Please wear it as often as you can so that our nurses know the whole of STA supports their struggle for a fair contract.
