On Sunday, October 20th, teachers unions from across Long Island took part in the Run for Beigel. The run was to honor a fellow teacher, Scott Beigel who sacrificed his life during the Parkland shooting to save his students. Long Island Teachers, NYSUT, and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) were all sponsors of the event. All of the money raised at the 5k goes to the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships for kids who are effected by gun violence so that they can go to Summer sleep away camps.
