In February, we sent information for the Long Island Teachers' Benevolent Fund Leonard Motisi Scholarship. We are now sending information for the Syosset Teachers' Association Leonard Motisi Scholarship Fund. These are two different scholarships. Your child may apply to both scholarships for consideration.

The Syosset Teachers' Association sponsors an annual scholarship in honor of our dear friend and former President, Leonard Motisi, who died in 1995. Because Mr. Motisi was not only a wonderful teacher and union leader, but also a gifted musician, we are seeking a recipient who is interested in education, and/or music and who is blessed with demonstrable leadership skills.

This scholarship shall be for $500 a year and shall be continued for each of up to four years that the recipient is a full-time matriculated student at an accredited institution.

Eligibility: Recipients must be Syosset High School graduating seniors or the

child of any parent who is a current, active member of the Syosset Teachers' Association.

Candidates must be enrolled as full time college students at the beginning of both the spring and the fall term of each year they receive the scholarship.

Criteria: Students' applications will be rated per the following:

a) Candidates' academic accomplishments will be evaluated by assessing school transcripts, including a copy of SAT scores and at least one of the following: Class Rank, and/or High School Average/Grade Point Average. If the school transcript does not contain the Class Rank or Average/GPA scores, the guidance counselor must submit a statement indicating one or the other.

b) Candidates' interests will be judged based on three essays included in the application.

Note: Applicants must arrange for a transcript to be sent to the Syosset Teachers' Association that includes all grades and courses taken, as well as scores on the SAT or ACT exams. This transcript should be sent to Syosset Teachers' Association, 98 Ann Drive, Syosset, NY 11791 or emailed to donnas.sta@gmail.com.

The application is attached below. Completed application must be emailed to Donna Stanziani at donnas.sta@gmail.com no later than 3:00 p.m. on May 30, 2020.
